Hello there, its been a while.... 18 months to be exact...

However, our messaging and focus hasn't changed - if you’ve ever doubted that one small change, cannot make a big impact, we’ve got the numbers to prove you wrong...

As of February 2025, heres our stat sheet:

🚰 16 Fresh Water Wells funded, constructed installed across Malawi
👩‍🏫 225 children benefitting with access to education
💦 2,123 people drinking clean water as you read this
🌳 400 native trees planted in Ireland
♻️ 57 million+ single-use items avoided because of our reusables (based on one reuse per day over a plastic bottle or coffee cup)

Oh, and we just exceeded our goal of donating 2% of annual revenue to clean water, education, and sustainability projects.... hitting 5.59%!

We're a small business, that's ran part-time - I hope that can provide motivation... Anyway, So what has happened since our last update?

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE WORLD?

Sustainability isn’t just about reusable cups and bags—it’s about the big picture... And right now, the world is throwing a lot at us - which provides us with laughter, fear and confusion - depending on the day...

Here’s a few topical moments making waves:

🛞 EV Drama in the EU – The EU is talking about slapping hefty tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles to protect European automakers. So, if you were planning to grab a sleek EV at a bargain, you might need to rethink that budget. On the plus side, bicycle sales are still tariff-free—so maybe it’s time to embrace leg day, the hi-vis and helmet and get-going! While not a Tax expert, I do find it ironic that once something becomes affordable, that could help nations reach some of their climate goals, we ultimately add a surcharge - relinquishing the ability for change (and yes, its not that straight forward but crossed by mind nonetheless)

🌍 Plastic Straws Who? – Remember when banning plastic straws was the sustainability hill we all chose to die on? Well, turns out, sustainability isn’t just about ditching straws—it’s about war, economics, and global resource allocation.

Case in point? The environmental catastrophe unfolding in Gaza, where war is devastating infrastructure, drinking water supplies, and food security.

If we’re serious about a sustainable future, we need to talk about peace as much as we talk about plastics. At Narcissips, we have also mentioned the global disparity when it comes to sustainability... Even with the small things, in Ireland we get to talk about reusables because well, we have access to clean and safe drinking water for the most-part... Hence why reusables are a first world problem in our eyes, making us query why most of us cannot even commit to the basics of avoiding single-use while others have to deal with much larger, existential issues - that the majority of the world seemingly glazes over...

🇺🇸 Trump 2024 (Again) – The man, the myth, the… meme? Love him or loathe him, Trump is back in the White House, with climate scientists quaking.

Why? Because a second Trump term can mean a total gutting of climate policies, reversing years of progress. Then again, with his views on wind turbines (spoiler: they cause cancer, apparently?), maybe we can at least expect some… entertaining press conferences and dance-routines....

🚀 The Billionaire Space Race is Back (Because, well...Priorities?) – While climate scientists are sounding the alarm about the collapse of several planetary boundaries, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are locked in a multi-billion-dollar contest to colonize the Moon.

The cost? Easily over $100 billion—which, for context, could significantly address global hunger. The UN World Food Programme estimates that $40 billion annually could end world hunger by 2030. Meanwhile, I still feel guilty about food waste, leading to the inability to shed those few pounds around the gut... wfpusa.org

Lastly, bringing it back home...

🌊 Dublin Might Need a Lifeboat (Literally) – Climate scientists have warned (again) that Dublin could be partially underwater by 2050 if sea levels keep rising. But don’t worry, I am sure the Government will be adequately prepared for this..... Jk, they'll probably just start planning permissions for luxury floating hotels, rather than flood defences...

🇮🇪 Ireland’s “Green” Reputation is… Well, in Reality, Questionable – Sure, we’ve got rolling green fields and claim to be sustainability champions, but did you know Ireland is one of the worst in the EU for per capita emissions? Yep.

Despite all the talk, we’re still burning fossil fuels like it’s the Celtic Tiger era. The government has pledged big changes, but so far, it’s mostly been… promises.

Anyway, if you made it this far.... well done, thank you and if you didn't know already, we work with some of the leading companies, resorts and GAA clubs in Ireland to help people choose and customize reusables!

Pensions & Climate Change - How to make a real impact!

Walk more, cycle more, eat less meat...

These are all the typical solutions provided by the majority to reduce our impact on the environment. And yes, this includes me... However, to caveat this, I believe in community, small change and working towards that 1% each day which is what these small habits like walking more are. They are not the silver bullet, but like choosing reusables, they are that 'pat on the back' to say 'I'm trying to do my part'.

When it comes to the bigger picture though, as always - money talks
